Finally settled in the workshop

- It’s really starting to look like something now.

After many months of planning, sketches, discussions, and dreams — and a few intense weeks of physical work — we can finally say it: Holmen Snowboards now has its own workshop.

A workshop built from the ground up

The space was a complete mess when we took over. Not even a single wall was where we needed it. But that didn’t really matter — it gave us the opportunity to build everything exactly the way we wanted. Over the course of a few weeks, we’ve put up partition walls, built an office, and organized zones for production, tools, storage, and testing. Everything has to connect and flow — after all, we’re building something that needs to withstand a beating, year after year.

The Press Room

The most important part of the entire workshop might just be the new press room. This is where the magic happens – it’s here the snowboards are pressed and take their shape. But for it to work optimally, the room needs to maintain a stable temperature and humidity level. It might sound trivial, but it’s actually been one of the most challenging parts to get right. A snowboard consists of many layers – a wood core, fiberglass, carbon, steel edges, and a topsheet – and when all of these are fused together in the press, everything has to be perfectly aligned, under the right pressure and conditions.

The press itself is a story of its own: it was designed and welded by Kristian’s father – a powerful and precise machine that has already impressed us. We love that something so essential to our production also carries a personal story behind it.

Heavy equipment and heavy lifting

We’ve also spent time and money getting the right equipment. Band saws, planers, sanding tables, and specialized tools – everything is needed to produce boards with high precision and a perfect finish. In total, we’ve invested several hundred thousand kroner in machinery, and we’re feeling it – both physically and financially. But it feels right. We’re investing, and we believe in what we’re building.

Production starts soon

Now that everything is in place, the next phase begins: the production of our first boards. This is where our visions turn into real products – boards with personality, feel, and character. Not mass production, but small batches, built with care and passion.
